Antiragging Committee

Aadya College of Pharmacy, Chitradurga, Karnataka, maintains a strict zero-tolerance policy towards ragging in any form. In accordance with the directives of the Honorable Supreme Court of India, the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), and the AICTE Act 1987 (52 of 1987), the institution enforces stringent regulations to curb ragging.

As per Clause (f), u/s 2 of the UGC Act, 1956, a committee has been constituted to prohibit, prevent, and eliminate ragging. Ragging includes any spoken or written act that harasses, mistreats, or handles a fresher or any student with rudeness. It also includes any form of undisciplined behavior that may cause psychological or physical harm, create fear or apprehension, or force a student to act against their will, leading to shame, torment, or embarrassment. Any act that derives sadistic pleasure or displays power over a fresher or another student is strictly prohibited. The institution is committed to ensuring a safe and respectful academic environment for all students.

Objectives & Responsibilities of the Anti-Ragging Committee
Objectives:

  1. To create a safe and conducive learning environment for students, free from any form of ragging.
  2. To ensure strict compliance with the guidelines set by the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI), Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), and UGC in preventing ragging.
  3. To promote awareness among students about the adverse effects of ragging through workshops, seminars, and campaigns.
  4. To implement preventive measures to eliminate ragging in all its forms within the college premises, hostels, and other associated areas.
  5. To establish a grievance redressal mechanism for students to report incidents of ragging confidentially and ensure prompt action.
  6. To take strict disciplinary action against those found guilty of engaging in or abetting ragging.
  7. To foster a culture of mutual respect, harmony, and student-friendly campus policies.

Responsibilities:

  1. Preventive Measures:
    • Conduct orientation programs for freshers and awareness drives for senior students about the anti-ragging policies.
    • Display anti-ragging posters and guidelines prominently in classrooms, hostels, and common areas.
    • Obtain anti-ragging affidavits from students and parents as per UGC and PCI regulations.
  2. Monitoring & Surveillance:
    • Conduct regular inspections in college premises, hostels, and nearby locations to prevent ragging incidents.
    • Appoint faculty and student volunteers to act as anti-ragging squad members for continuous vigilance.
    • Encourage senior students to mentor juniors in a positive and supportive manner.
  3. Complaint Handling & Redressal:
    • Establish a dedicated anti-ragging helpline/email to facilitate easy reporting of complaints.
    • Ensure timely investigation and strict action against any reported cases of ragging.
    • Provide necessary counseling and support to affected students.
  4. Disciplinary Action:
    • Follow a zero-tolerance policy towards ragging and impose penalties on offenders as per institutional and legal frameworks.
    • Report severe cases to the concerned authorities, including the police, if required.
    • Maintain records of ragging incidents and actions taken for compliance and reporting purposes.
  5. Coordination with Authorities:
    • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and university authorities to ensure legal enforcement of anti-ragging laws.
    • Submit periodic reports on anti-ragging measures and activities to the relevant regulatory bodies.
  6. Student Engagement & Counseling:
    • Organize interactive sessions and motivational talks to build a friendly and inclusive campus culture.
    • Facilitate access to psychological counseling and support services for victims and students at risk.

ANTI-RAGGING SQUAD

The college has constituted an ‘anti-ragging squad’ comprising of faculty members and selected non-teaching staff that are responsible for discipline and compliance. Ragging incidences reported if any, will be investigated and strict disciplinary action will be initiated. The college is committed to zero tolerance for ragging.

Punishment for Those Found Guilty

Any student or group of students found guilty of ragging, whether on or off campus, shall be subject to one or more of the following punishments:

  • Debarment from appearing in any sessional tests or university examinations.
  • Suspension from attending classes and laboratory sessions.
  • Withdrawal of scholarships and other benefits.
  • Suspension from the college for a period of one month.
